TALK: Computational Graphic Design: Colors, Fonts, and Layout
Abstract:
I will present current research projects on understanding and creating graphic designs. Graphic design is a field with a very long history. There is a lot of expert knowledge and folklore involved in design, but little science. By using large, online datasets, design insights, and machine learning, we can study graphic design in a more rigorous way, and also create better tools for amateurs and professionals. I will describe some very initial efforts in these directions, in the areas of color compatibility, font selection, and single-page layout.
This is joint work with Peter O'Donovan, J?nis L?beks, and Aseem Agarwala.
