Reminder Subject: TALK: BigData@CSAIL Data Privacy Series: To be announced

Facebook’s mission is to make the world more open and connected by giving people the power to share. Maintaining the trust of the 1.6 billion people who use Facebook every month is critical to that mission, and protecting their privacy is a big part of that. Of course, not everyone wants to connect and share in the same way – given the vastly different views about privacy across people and across cultures, a one-size-fits-all approach to privacy simply won’t work. This presentation will (1) describe how Facebook’s Privacy Program is designed to optimize for sound decision making at a fast-moving, global company; and (2) discuss a few key privacy challenges and how Facebook designs its products to address them.

Matt Scutari is the Head of Facebook’s Privacy Program, leading the team that coordinates Facebook’s cross-functional privacy review process for all new products and services. Matt first joined Facebook in 2013 to manage consumer product privacy for Facebook’s Global Public Policy team. Prior to joining Facebook, Matt practiced privacy and data security law at Willkie Farr & Gallagher in Washington, DC. Matt has a J.D. from Georgetown Law and a B.A. in History and Political Science from the University of Richmond.
