Abstract:
Disinformation, strategic omissions and misleading media narratives have been used since ancient times to advance the goals of powerful actors. Machine learning has recently enabled scaling up such strategies, causing significant harm. I explore novel strategies for using machine-learning to detect and counteract such strategies, on the premise that democracy works better when people know the truth.
